Project Description: Fundamental design elements included narrowing the travel lanes to create wide sidewalks along the retail portions of the Avenue, bricking Park Avenue, oak tree planting, and establishing a prominent gateway with Fairbanks Avenue . During the process the city’s restrictive 2-story height regulation was adjusted to allow three stories of development and plans to change the façade of the Bank of America tower were developed. Ordinances were drafted to allow café seating in the public right-of-way and to address the problem of newspaper vending boxes. Specially designed elements included newspaper box enclosures, information kiosks, and decorative directional signage.
