Project Description: San Juan Del Sur is a quaint fishing village on the Pacific Ocean recently
discovered by major cruise ship lines as a port destination. With an expanding tourism market making
significant economic impact to the city, Martin & Vargas DESIGN was hired by the mayor to
improve the aesthetic appearance of the city. The assignment included design concepts for the main
church plaza, main street, beach side promenade and well as the a new gateway feature. The concepts
for the promenade, the church plaza and main street were immediately implemented, with Martin
and Vargas providing design oversight during the construction process. The project was recently
nominated for the 2008 Holcim Awards for Sustainable Visions.
